Steve’s Message 4/10/14

Member message for Beneficial Farm CSA, week April 10th, 2014

Climatology 2013: NOAA LINK:

So far no killer frosts taking out fruit tree’s blossoms!!!  We are into a critical time of spring for our fruit producing areas.  Warm days and cool nights are ok.  Arctic cold fronts, if cold enough, can spell the loss of major portions of the season’s potential.

This week’s Cow stories:  Mesa Top cows and Jim Miller Ayrshire project:  Dominic has just a few cows that have calved since last fall.  We are moving forward with plans to sell some cows soon!

This week’s protein update:  The veal shares are done.  We have veal loin chops to sell.  Look for them on the marketplace.

This week’s cheese making update:  We have tried some every other day milking and it seems to be fine for the momma cows and the calves.  Still making green chile cheese!

This week’s Veggie/Share Update:  This week for the first time in a long time, there are no avocadoes in the share.  The season is over.

This week the share includes several super salad items:  organic sunflower sprouts from Sungreen Living Foods, spicy young greens from Sol y Tierra in Anthony, NM, and micro romaine and red leaf lettuce from Preferred Produce.  We are also giving scallions and red bell pepper from Preferred.

From beyond the produce world the share includes young raw milk jack from Mesa Top and balsamic/basil marinara from Intergalactic.

Membership news:  Please follow us on line at Facebook and Twitter. This is a great way to show your friends our weekly shares, recipes and updates.

Thank you for your investment in and continued support of the CSA.  We appreciate your support!
