Climatology 2013: We are bracing again for two days of significant cold: highs in the mid to upper 30s at Mesa Top. Maybe even a little more moisture. There are some new patches of green in the favored areas of pasture around Mesa Top.
This week’s Cow stories: Mesa Top cows and Jim Miller Ayrshire project: Nothing new on the life of the cows in general.
The search continues for hay and grass/pasture for the season ahead.
This week’s protein update: Mesa Top Ground beef and family beef packs are in continuous supply.
This week’s cheese making update: Cheese making continues. No new cheese making news!
This week’s cheese share includes: a variety of artisanal cheeses
This week’s Veggie/Share Update: This week’s share reflects the ongoing increase in spring vegetable varieties.
The first product from our Northern NM farms are featured in the share this week: we have parsley and asian greens (for cooking) from Talon de Gato Farm. We also have organic radishes from Skarsgard Farm in the South Valley of Albuquerque.
From the greenhouses at Preferred Produce South of Deming, we have organic romaine lettuce, grape tomatoes and a choice: some members receiving cantaloupe and some receiving cucumbers. See Dena’s email about fairness in the primate clan.
With the end of the Arizona citrus, we turn to a processed fruit product from a regional partner for our sweet treat this week: organic apple juice from Big B’s juices in Hotchkiss, Colorado. There will be a bit of a shortage of fruity local foods from now until the first fruit of the season in late June.
Rounding out the share is the last living sauerkraut, from our departing farmer friends at Gemini Farm.
We hope you enjoy the interesting mix of produce and other local foods that make up your share this week.
