Climatology 2012: There has been a bit of rain, but not a true August monsoon just yet. The storms are starting to come in from the North and Northeast, which is a fall/winter pattern. But at least there are storms!
This week’s Cow stories: Mesa Top cows and Jim Miller Ayrshire project: Thrasher update: Thrasher walked off with Momma Maya and spent a whole day and night out on the pasture. It must have tired him out as next day he stayed home and slept all day. He is still becoming more “normal”, though of course this is a relative term in his case.
The herd is looking great on the next door neighbor’s ranch. Plenty of grass, and everyone looks healthy.
This week’s cheese making update: no new news.
This week’s cheese share includes: a variety of artisanal cheeses
Mesa Top Meat (Protein) update: no new news
This week’s Veggie/Share Update: As we move into August we are able to find more variety of vegetables. If there are items that you have not seen, or would like to see more of, this is the best time to be asking. If there is a reason why we are unable to provide certain items we will explain in the weekly member message or email. We look forward to your suggestions.
This week we have the first garlic of the season from La Madera Farm in Ojo Caliente. The largest heads are saved and cured for late fall and winter distribution. We always get an early taste. Enjoy!
We also have sweet corn and onions from Espanola Valley Farm, and organic Chard from Synergia Ranch.
We close out the vegetable portion of the share with Cukes from Talon de Gato Farm, and Mesa Top Lettuce mix.
On the fruit side we have pears from John Trujillo to go along with Danny Farrar’s Rancho La Jolla peaches. We hope you will consider ordering extra peaches and putting them up in some form for the winter.
