Steve’s Weekly Update 6-20-12

Climatology 2012:  First day of summer.  The heat is on.  Under these conditions, we do the best we can to keep the crops alive while waiting for moderation of the dryness and the heat.  The squash and cukes thrive, but the greens are not happy.  Much as we would like to see some rain, we would even be grateful for a cloud or two.  It is survival mode for the people, the plants and the animals….

This week’s Cow stories:  Mesa Top cows and Jim Miller Ayrshire project:  We got 18 cows over to Scott and Julie’s and boy are they happy.  Hopefully 10 more today and maybe another trailer load this weekend.  There is lots of grass there, even though the acreage is small.  They have had a good supply of acequia water, so the grass is green and lush.

This week’s cheese making update:  No news from the cheese room.

This week’s cheese share includes: a variety of artisanal cheeses

Mesa Top Meat (Protein) update:   Pork is on the market place list.  Take a look.

This week’s Veggie/Share Update:  Mesa Top Farm provides your kale.  Romaine or summer crisp lettuce comes to you from Red Mountain Farm. We have Snow/sugar snap peas from Rancho La Jolla.  And also garlic scapes one more time from Gemini Farm Chimayo.

For the fruit portion of your share we again have cherries from Rancho La Jolla and Apricots from Shiraz Vineyard.

Membership news:  So help us spread the word and sign up more members!  We add $10 to your Farm Account for every member you refer.

Thank you for your investment in and continued support of the CSA.  We appreciate your support!
