The Beneficial Farms Waffle Garden at the Railyard is a place to share food with the community. The Railyard Stewards assisted us earlier this summer to donate food to the Food Depot. In August, I partnered with the Milagro Community Garden to donate food to Casa Familia, a shelter for families with children, as well as the Adelante Juntos program that provides food for the homeless children in the Santa Fe schools. The Milagro Community Garden is located at the Lutheran Church of the Servant who supports these two programs.
Last week, Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails used produce from their own garden and donations by other community gardeners to prepare dinner for Casa Familia. There was enough fresh produce to make two pasta casseroles with tomato and zucchini, side dishes of fresh cooked carrots and green beans with tomatoes and onions. There was also a cold rice and black bean salad with fresh carrots, cucumbers and grape tomatoes. The Girl Scouts said the residents were thankful for the fresh produce.
